Percussion muzzle-loading plains rifle circa 1850’s to 60’s, half-stocked, lock neatly period inlaid with silver dime at center dated 1853, right during the gold rush. The rifle measures 59-1/2” with 43-1/4” medium to slightly heavy weight octagon barrel of approx. .36 caliber. The rifle shows an ovoid brass patchbox with brass mounts, double set triggers, and classic American styling with remnants of signature on barrel which appears to be “B.A.” in fancy script. The stock is good quality walnut. The barrel and metal surfaces show a dark grey to brown patina with some light to heavy scattered pitting and erosion. The lock is working, the stockshows some cracks, breaks, and small losses, but generally good for its age. The sideplate is German silver as is the star inlaid into the cheekpiece. A wood ramrod is included. Est: $400 - $800
