Percussion half-stocked plains type rifle, .50 cal., 29-1/2” octagon barrel, blue finish, wood stock with earlier brass patch box, brass trigger guard, ferrules and butt plate; additionally a silver inlaid oval is in the left side of the butt stock and is marked “H. H. Hosmer” and there is a small metal Moose affixed to the rear left side of the butt stock. This gun is in overall good condition and has a good look in that the metal surfaces have an even dark patina, the lock plate is marked “W.H. Barnes, Boston”; shows good wood and as mentioned previously, an early, high quality brass patch box that came from an earlier gun since the pioneers of America seldom disposed of anything useful; wood ramrod a later replacement.
