Perazzi Model MX8 SCO-Grade Over/Under Game Shotgun, #72648, 12 ga. 2-3/4'' chambers, 30'' barrels serial numbered to the gun, with a 7/16''x1/4'' flat parallel vented rib, ventilated side ribs, and an Perazzi orange trapezoidal front sight without a middle bead; barrel bores are o/u factory stamped 18.4/18.5, chokes measure .022'' and .042''; barrel lug date code is 1988, no importer's marks are present. The removable bottom-first SCO gold-plated inertia trigger group is serial numbered to the gun and features leaf springs with a manual safety and single trigger having a crisp 3 lb. let-off. The coin-finished frame is intricately engraved with three vivid waterfowl game scene panels of ducks in flight over marshlands, Perazzi factory patterns 13 and 63, masterfully executed and signed by Ugo Talenti, co-founder of Italy's Creative Art engraving guild; chiseled foliate border scroll engraving surrounds the game scenes and extends across the blued triggerguard, forend iron, top lever and safety slide. The pistol-grip stock and field forend are 4A+ Turkish walnut with sharply contrasting dark swirl figure enhanced by a high-gloss finish and extremely fine 32 lpi borderless checkering; stock dimensions are 14-5/8'' length of pull over a 7/8'' Perazzi solid black recoil pad, 1-1/2'' drop at comb, 1-7/8'' drop at heel, cast off 1/4'' at heel and 1/2'' at toe, 2-3/4'' pitch, no palm swell; barrels are factory stamped 1.560 KG and the assembled gun weighs 8-1/2 lbs. The overall stock finish shows evidence of field use but remains near excellent with light impressions and hairline scuffs along with small areas of open grain and light residual sanding marks on side panels; two faint separations in the finish are beginning at the rear of the upper tang; barrels are near excellent with loss of blue along the forend contact areas and slight loss of gold fill in Perazzi barrel address letters; coin finish on frame is fine, showing superficial effects of moisture exposure through game scenes; trigger group housing has loss of blue on sides from removal and installation. Gold plating on left hammer shows light scattered oxidation, gold plating on trigger is wearing; the action is tight, bores are bright, ejectors are strong and in time. A black combination lock ABS case is included along with a Perazzi stock tool. Est.: $10,000-$15,000. (Modern) (Ian Shein estate)
