Pep #1 (MLJ, 1940) CGC VF- 7.5 Cream to off-white pages. Predating Captain America #1 by over a year, Pep #1 introduced comicdom's first patriotic superhero to the world, named the Shield. Even though he never enjoyed the level of success Cap would, it's obvious Joe Simon borrowed from the Shield's costume when he created the Sentinel of Liberty months later. Pep would go on to introduce another important character in #22, named Archie Andrews, and run for nearly 50 years before ending in 1987. This copy is stamped on the front cover, but appears tight with minor wear to the edges. Truly a landmark issue that would kick off one of the most historically important series produced in the 1940s. Overstreet 2002 VF 8.0 value = $5,922. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium.
