Peoria, IL - $100 1882 Brown Back Fr. 519 The First NB Ch. # 176
This rare high denomination example is the only Brown Back of any kind known from this otherwise available Peoria bank. Tom obtained it from a September, 2000 CAA sale, where it realized only $1540 in an era where the true rarity of these high denomination Brown Backs went unnoticed. With the publication of Don Kelly's census, the market has now realized just how scarce these notes truly are, and price levels have adjusted accordingly. We continue to believe, however, that plenty of room remains for further price appreciation for better type Nationals, especially First Charter specimens in denominations of $20 and higher along with Second Charter and Red Seal fifties and hundreds. Fine.
From The Thomas M.
