Pennsylvania made flintlock Kentucky style rifle circa about 1810 to 1830s with no signature on barrel and H. Ashmore marked lock. The rifle shows a pierced patch box and good natural striped stock. The rifle showscharacteristic silver moon inlay at the cheek piece and the lock plate is secured by 2 screws. The rifle measures 57” overall with 41 ½” barrel and is approximately .36 caliber deeply rifled. There is reinforcing brass on the bottom of the forend and the rear of the stock near the butt plate which is old but not original to the manufacture. Both sides of the forend show repairs and replacement of wood towards the front of the muzzle. Thelock is a well done reconversion using original flintlock hammer and noticeable re-lining to touch hole. The wood has been lightly refinished. Refer “The Plains Rifle” by Hansen page 135.
