Letter is datelined 14 October 1863 from Oil City, Pennsylvania, and reads in part: ''…I have arrived safe at Oil City and am injoing the Best of helth at Present and in writing these few lines I…hope that it will find you in the same state…you remember that I told you that I would Be home in too weeks I am verry sorry to say that I will have to Brake my Promis witch is not verry often the case with me I thought that I would get home the last of this week But owing to Circumstances I can not tel when I will be home But I will try and Be in your presence at the Earliest possible date I do not like Oil City it is verry lonesome for me after Puting in as good a time as I did in Springdale nothing would give me more pleasures than to Be there to night and Be in your Presence. I was up the Creek this fore noon seeing a friend of mine that is sick I saw a good many of my acquaintanc witch I did not expect…I was also invited to a Party to morrow eve I rather think I shall not attend owing to the manner in witch the last one went of in I have not forgotten that yet evry time I been of a Party I think of that one and feel verry sorry…'' 8'' x 10'' letter runs 3pp. Minor foxing and overall toning and soiling; overall very good condition.
