<B>Pennsylvania President Thomas Wharton Document Signed</B></I> "<I>Tho Wharton jun Pres</B></I>". One page, partly printed, Supreme Executive Council, 14" x 9", Philadelphia, November 6, 1777. An appointment of Stophel Whiteman "to be Adjutant of the Ninth Battalion of Militia, in the County of Lancaster." In 1777, Wharton was elected "His Excellency Thomas Wharton, junior, esquire, president of the supreme executive council of Pennsylvania, captain-general and commander-in-chief in and over the same," and served until his death a year later. Fine condition; folds, a bit of damp staining but signature is bold and clean, and the paper seal is intact and well defined. From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
