<B>Pennsylvania Lawyer William Rawle Letter Archive.</B></I> Ten letters of varying sizes, dated from 1809-1889, certainly the early letters are from THE William Rawle, the latter letters surely are from relative. All letters are in very good condition. William Rawle (1759-1836) was a lawyer, born in Philadelphia. A Loyalist, he studied law in England during the American Revolution but returned to his native city and served as United States attorney for Pennsylvania (1791-1800). He was a member of the Maryland Society against slavery (1792-1836), serving as its president from 1818. He was a long-time trustee of the University of Pennsylvania and belonged to several other cultural and legal organizations.
