Pennsylvania/Kentucky full stock flintlock rifle, dated 1823 on the top barrel flat and inscribed “Jacob Hilton and Son for P. P. Mora”; 61” overall with a 45” octagon barrel, .50 cal., brass mountings, wood ramrod,double set triggers (working at time of description). This beautiful example of an early Kentucky rifle is in overall very good condition showing a dark patina on metal surfaces, good action, dark bore, fine brasspatchbox showing a Federal period American Eagle profile, at the time, a national symbol of fierce patriotism; man-in-the-moon face on left side of butt stock along with a pierced brass star on the rear left side ofthe butt stock, pierced oval plaque on top of wrist and same on both sides of the fore stock (six in all) and brass fore stock end cap; simple carving along the rails of the fore stock; beautiful lines and a greatpatina on wood showing an old crack along the right side of the fore stock area in front of the lock and a small crack to the left side of the stock above the trigger guard/below the lockplate; one of the nicer
