This is an excellent hand crafted Percussion Transition Rifle. The rifle was made in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and is a wonderful Kentucky Long Rifle. The piece has rich grained wood with inlaid brass and a heavy octagon rifled barrel. The piece was originally hand made to be a flintlock rifle circa 1780-1800 and was transitioned to percussion caps circa 1820. The piece is marked on the receiver, "PHILADa (or Philad A) surrounded by engravings. The piece has been owned by the collector for over 50 years and handed down through his family. The rifle is very finely crafted showing some expert gunsmithing. Rare transition period rifle. The piece is in very good condition for its age (only visible major flaw is missing brass inlay near butte). Has wonderful brass inlaid patch box and butte plate with various other accents. Measures 57 .75"L overall.
