Pennsylvania Full Length Percussion Rifle
Fixed sights on a barrel marked "LANCASTER PA" with a crudely restamped name (possibly J. F. Ortney). The lock plate has a partial marking: "OLCHER" (likely for Golcher). In AMERICAN GUNSMITH, firearms expert Frank Sellers lists several Golchers who worked in Pennsylvania. The trigger guard, crescent buttplate (engraved), ramrod pipes, reverse plate, and forend cap are brass. The wedge escutcheons, thumb shield, and eagle overlay on the cheekpiece are German silver. Double set triggers and full length stock with crude carving on wrist.
