JOHN NICHOLSON. DS. 1pp. 8" x 6 1/4". Philadelphia. January 9th, 1786. A partly printed document signed "John Nicholson" and addressed to "David Rittenhouse...Treasurer". Nicholson ordered payment "to John Poorham Private of Schotts Corps of the Pennsylvania Line...the sum of Nine Pounds fourteen Shillings being three year's interest on his despreciation certificate..." The piece is in fine condition with small fold split and an exceptionally dark signature. Also signed by Charles Biddle (1745 – 1821). Served as Vice President of the Pennsylvania Supreme Executive Council (the equivalent of Lieutenant-Governor), while Benjamin Franklin served as President of the Council. His son was Nicholas Biddle of banking and political fame.
