Pennsylvania Archives - Second Series Vol XII 1896
This lot is the "Pennsylvania Archives - Second Series Vol. XII", Published under direction of Secretary of the Commonwealth, Clarence M. Busch, State Printer of Pennsylvania 1896, Harrisburg. Muster rolls of the Pennsylvania Volunteers in the War of 1812-1814 with Contemporary Papers And Documents Volume I. This book lists every officer, non-commissioned officer and enlisted man who served during the war against the British. The War of 1812 was fought by the United States of America and its indigenous allies against the United Kingdom and its allies in British North America, with limited participation by Spain in Florida. During the 19th century, historians generally concluded that war was declared largely over national honour, neutral maritime rights and the British seizure of neutral ships and their cargoes on the high seas. This marbled boards hardcover is in good overall condition, scuffing exhibited to cover edges, leather spine has gold gilt lettering, black colour mostly rubbed off. Intact fore-edge painting match covers and endpaper marbling design, no other obvious marring noted. Measures 6"W x 8."L x 1.5"D
