He was relieved of duty after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor (Dec 7, 1941), and charged with negligence. A pair of brass buttons from his uniform, given by his son to a noted collector. Comes with a copy of a statement signed, by William D Short, 1988, "This is to certify that I gave to Edward Whaling the following items that belonged to my father, LTG Walter C Short: funeral flag, dog tag and two sterling silver general's stars." Whaling, a noted uniform collector from whom a group of Short relics originated, befriended Short's son and at one of their meetings received these uniform buttons. VG. $100-150
