Significant quantities of this advanced carbine were subsequently purchased by Connecticut and South Carolina as well as many foreign countries. The carbine has a blued barrel and casehardened barrel band, receiver, hammer, lever and buttplate. The stock and forearm are oil finished walnut. The carbine has a folding rear sight with three apertures graduated to 600 yards. A saddle ring stud with ring is mounted to the left side of the receiver. The left side of the receiver is marked "PEABODY'S PAT. / JULY 22. 1862 / MAN'F'D BY / PROVIDENCE TOOL CO. / PROV. R.I." A small "WC" oval company inspection stamp is located on the left wrist. Most components are stamped with single letter inspection marks but the carbine has no visible serial numbers or caliber designations.

Very fine. The barrel retains approximately 80% thinning original blue finish. The remaining surfaces retain approximately 75% original case colors with the balance a smooth brown patina. The cartouche is clear and crisp.
