Joan Thorne is a New York based artist, whose work has been included in two Whitney Museum Biennials amongst many other survey shows. She was awarded the Prix de Rome in 1986 and she has been given two retrospective exhibitions, the first in 1988 in the Dominican Republic and the second in 2000 in Puerto Rico. The present work resulted from an artistic exchange wherein both Bewick and Thorne painted one another's portraits.
