Famed and highly influential French poet (1844–1896). Though he produced such lasting classics as Poèmes saturniens and Romances sans paroles, he is probably better known for his tumultuous love affair with the prodigiously gifted teenage poet Arthur Rimbaud. Manuscript receipt in French, signed “P. Verlaine,” one page, 6 x 2.5, March 13, 1887. Confirmation of the receipt of a payment of 20 francs from his publisher Leon Vanier for biographies of Arthur Rimbaud and Albert Merat. Matted and framed to an overall size of 9.5 x 6.25. In fine condition, with a central vertical fold. An exceptionally desirable piece due to the Rimbaud content.
