French neo-impressionist painter (1863-1935) who, working with Georges Seurat, helped develop the Pointillist style. ALS in French, two pages on two adjoining sheets, 5.25 x 8.25, Societe des Artistes Independants letterhead, March 26, 1930. In a letter of thanks for a gift from an admirer of Monet, Signac writes, translated in full: “I thank you kindly for sending me your ‘Claude Monet.’ It is a clear, precise, and un-exaggerated resume of the career of the great painter to whom all painters worthy of the same owe something. You have understood and loved him. Contrary to so many other critics who want to be ‘with it,’ you are unreserved [in your admiration]. My congratulations, dear Monsieur, are very sincere.” In fine condition, with two horizontal mailing folds, one of which mildly affects the signature, and some scattered light creasing.
