Paul Revere Supplied Copper USS Frigate Constitution’s 1927 Restoration Bookend
War of 1812
USS Constitution Bookend Made of Paul Revere’s Supplied Copper from USS Frigate Constitution’s 1927 Restoration
1927-dated, Frigate USS Constitution Cast Ship’s Wheel Copper Bookend, Made From Copper Materials originally supplied by Paul Revere circa 1797 and removed during its 1927 major restoration, Extremely Fine.
An unusual bookend, cast in a bronze-colored metal, each consisting of a round medal depicting Old Ironsides as the central feature of a miniature ship’s wheel. The legend on the lead-weighted base of the bookend reads: “This Material Was Taken From U.S. Frigate Constitution 1927.” The bookend is in good original condition and measures approximately 6.5” tall, 5.75” wide and 2” deep with flange. Center portion of the wheel reads: “ OLD IRONSIDES - Launched 1797, 1804 Tripoli, 1812 Guerriere, Java, 1815 Cyanne, Le-Vant, US FRIGATE CONSTITUTION.” These bookends also have a connection to Paul Revere, who supplied the original copper for fittings when the ship was built in 1797. A wonderful tribute to the oldest ship still in active use by the U.S. Navy and a nice quality example.
