Commissary General of Massachusetts during the Revolutionary War, who warned Paul Revere there were a number of British officers patrolling the road to Lexington and Concord who might try to intercept him. Exceedingly rare ADS, signed “Rich'd Devens Com'y Gen.,” one page, 7.75 x 3.75, June 8, 1784. Document acknowledging the order and payment of gun powder from Joseph Hosmer, a minuteman who fought at the Battles of Lexington and Concord. In full: "Boston, June 8, 1784, Recd. of Joseph Hosmer Esq., Seventy pounds on acct. for gun powder sold him in behalf of this Common Wealth." Nicely mounted, double-matted, and framed with an engraving of Paul Revere's ride to an overall size of 22 x 11. In fine condition.
