Paul Nietsche (1885-1950) THE ROAD TO MALINBEG (NEAR GLENCOLMCILLE, COUNTY DONEGAL) signed and dated [1934] lower right; inscribed on reverse oil on canvas 51 by 61cm., 20 by 24in. Provenance: Dr Michael O'Brien, Belfast; Private collection, Dublin Dr O'Brien was a Gaelic scholar at Queen's University and friend and patron to Nietsche. They met in Germany and it was at O'Brien's invitation that the Ukranian artist first came to Ireland in 1926. Their friendship was such that Nietsche even held several small one-man exhibitions in O'Brien's Belfast home. See Snoddy pp.344-345€2500-€3500 (IR £2000-£2700 approx.)
