Rare souvenir handwritten lyrics to the White Album song “Why Don’t We Do It in the Road?,” on an off-white 6.5 x 6.25 napkin, signed at the bottom in black felt tip, “Paul McCartney!!, 2010.” McCartney pens a few lines of the repetitive song. In full: “Why don’t we do it / in the road? / Why don’t we do it / in the road? / No-one will / be watching us / Why don’t we do it / in the road?” Nicely matted and framed to an overall size of 11.5 x 12.5. In very fine condition. Originally donated by McCartney to the PRS for Music ‘Art of the Song’ charity auction to fundraise for the Teenage Cancer Trust. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks.

McCartney is said to have originally written the song after seeing two monkeys copulating in the street while visiting with the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in Rishikesh, India. He recorded the track with just Ringo Starr, an act which raised tension among the already strained relationships within the group. McCartney handwritten lyrics are extremely rare—hardly ever entering the marketplace—and never so neatly penned and beautifully presented.
