ALS signed “Paul, xxx,” one page on the reverse of a 5.75 x 4 promo card turned postcard, showing the leather-clad Beatles with Pete Best on drums, no date but circa April/May 1962. Letter to Wendy McFadyen, in full: “I lost your coupon the first week I was here, and I’ve only just found your address again. Thanks for writing. The club is great, but we’re only here for 4 more weeks. See you when we get home.” McCartney adds the address in the right side, and, on the image side of the card, has added “Dee Beetles” and decorated the face of each member. In very good condition, with scattered creases and corner wear, several spots of staining obscuring some writing, and surface loss from stamp removal. The Beatles served as the opening act at the launch of the Star-Club in Hamburg on April 13, 1962, and stayed on with the venue until the end of May. The next time the Beatles played the Star Club in early November, Ringo Starr had replaced Pete Best as the band’s full-time drummer, forever solidifying the classic Fab Four lineup.
