Born in 1872 in Dayton, Ohio of former slaves, Dunbar was one of the first African-American writers to gain national prominence, in part because his work appealed to both black and white audiences. National fame and demands for readings and appearances took its toll on Dunbar's health. He succumbed to tuberculosis in 1906 at the young age of 33.<p>All in Very Good to Excellent condition. "Uncalled" has middle name as "Lawrence" on cover.
