"Tasting Notes"
"A somewhat forgotten great vintage for La Chapelle, the 1959 may not possess the sheer intensity and majesty of the 1961, but it is not far behind. The color is a deep, dark garnet with some amber at the edge. The fabulous bouquet of Asian spices, black fruits, underbrush, smoke, and sweet barbecue spices is followed by a wine of enormous volume. Thick, unctuous, and full-bodied, with high alcohol, massive fruit, and low acidity, this is one of the most hedonistic, decadent La Chapelles I have ever tasted. The fact that it is more developed and fatter than the 1961 makes for thrilling drinking. Although it has reached full maturity, given its size and concentration, I would have no fear of aging well-stored bottles for another 10-15 years." 98 Points. Robert Parker, Rhone, 97
