Southern poet, critic, and editor whose sonnets are considered his best work (1830–1886). ALS signed “Paul H. Hayne,” one page, lightly-lined, 5.5 x 8.5, Revere House letterhead, August 5, 1879. Letter to an admirer. In part: “Mr. Butterworth of ‘The Youth’s Comp’ handed me your note requesting the Mss of a little poem of mine, called ‘At Last.’” Light scattered soiling and a small tape-repaired tear to the upper left corner, otherwise fine condition.
