Scarce Paul Dukas autograph musical quotation of his most popular work, “The Sorcerer's Apprentice.” 18 measures on double staves, dated May 1916, and inscribed in French. Translated in full: “Dear Sir, Here is the theme of The Sorcerer's Apprentice which you asked for. I send my warmest wishes / Paul Dukas.” The measures quoted are among the most well-known in all of music: the marching, “sneaking up music,” used in countless films, most notably in Walt Disney's “Fantasia,” where Mickey Mouse as the sorcerer's apprentice is horrified to see the broom into which he has conjured life, multiply into an entire army of marching brooms. Measures 8.25'' x 5.25''. The first example of this theme we have ever seen in near fine condition.
