French poet, dramatist, and diplomat (1868–1955), and the younger brother of the sculptor Camille Claudel. Autograph manuscript signed, “Claudel,” two pages, with portions in English and German, 8.5 x 11, Seven Springs Farm letterhead, September 11, 1929. Claudel writes out ‘The Speech-tree Ballad,” dedicating it to famous photographer Elizabeth Meyer. Poem begins, “Where the toastmaster introduces you with appropriate remarks? Then you rise feebly over the flowing cup of ice water and miserable remnants of desiccated fowl among molten ice cream.” In very good condition, with uniform toning to both pages, scattered creases, and a light stain to first page.
