Set of three limited edition original pencil sketches of the Apollo 11 crew on individual 9.5 x 6.25 oversized First Day Covers, all #11/11. Calle has drawn three very detailed sketches of each Apollo 11 crew member in their space suit and helmets. Each cover also bears a July 20, 1969, Moon landing postmark, as well as a September 9, 1969, Washington, D. C. postmark. In fine condition, with expected trivial soiling. Calle was the only artist present with the Apollo XI crew of Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins the morning of July 16, 1969, as they prepared for their historic launch to the Moon. His sketches of the Apollo 11 crew breakfast and Suiting Up stand as a visual record of the activities of the morning of July 16, 1969. Exceptional quality, with plenty of room for signatures of the astronauts for the industrious collector.
