Patterns 1879 Pattern Metric Dollar. Judd-1617. Pollock-1813. Rarity-3. Silver. Reeded Edge. PCGS graded Proof 62. Untoned light gray surfaces exhibit a light haze, but show minimal hairlines. Fields are mildly reflective. This "Metric Alloy" dollar was intended for international trade, and as such, conformed to the weight of the French 5 francs. The obverse of this experimental issue bears a distinctive head of Miss Liberty, executed by William Barber, which is similar to that used on the $50 "Half Union," a denomination planned for circulation in American, but with the exception of a few promotional pieces was never minted. An interesting reverse has the coin's metric breakdown inscribed within a circle at the center, surrounded by a wreath of corn and cotton., ONE DOLLAR below, DEO EST GLORIA above. UNITED STATES is identified around the upper periphery. Estimate $1,500.00-$2,000.00
