Folio [39 by 27 cm], contemporary full brown calf; spine with six raised bands, lettered and decorated in gilt. Finely engraved frontispiece by F. Chauveau; (36), 315, (1), 313-429, (3) pages; title printed in red and black with an engraved vignette; engraved headpieces, tailpieces and initials; finely engraved oval portraits of Louis XIV [by Mignard and Van Schuppen] and the author [by Le Febure]; numerous grouped coin engravings in the text. Some spotting and discoloration, mostly marginal, throughout. Binding quite worn, though still sound, with chipping to head of spine, and with the bottom two segments of the spine lacking. Very good or so. The last and best edition of Charles Patin’s first major numismatic work, written when he was only thirty years old.
