Pat. No. 3 Davis Swinging Churn Circa 1877
For your consideration is this Pat. No. 3 Davis swinging churn circa 1877. This is a wonderful piece of industrial history circa 1877 on the original patent. The no.3 Pat. churn is a 8 gallon churn and this particular piece is in good working condition showing fading from age but otherwise in pristine condition. The churn was made by Vermont Farm Machine Co. of Bellows Falls, Vermont. There are no paddles inside the churn. As the churn box rocked on the cradle the cream rolled over on itself to make butter. The company said this gentle action did not injure the butter. These butter churns were available in twelve sizes. The largest was 300 gallons and was made to be suspended from the ceiling beams of the creamery. The measurements of this swinging churn are 41" x 21" x 48"
