Pat Boyette - Original Art for The Phantom #51, page 23 (Charlton, 1972). Listen. Do you hear the drums sounding deep in the jungle? They call for the Phantom, the Ghost Who Walks, The Man Who Cannot Die, Protector of the Bengali Jungle. Striking fear into the hearts of evil men, and granting protection to those who deserve it, the Phantom is generally recognized as the first costumed hero, predating Superman by two whole years. Created by Lee Falk, who was also responsible for the legendary Mandrake the Magician, the Phantom has proven popular through almost seven decades. Offered here is a page from the fondly-remembered Charlton series, by the ever-popular Pat Boyette. Featured on this first page of the story are the Phantom, his significant other, Diana, and his friend Guran, chief of the Bandar pygmies. A smaller than usual page, measuring approximately 10" x 14.5" overall, this piece is in excellent condition, and will make a welcome addition to any Phantom collection.
