Corsican patriot, statesman, and military leader (1725–1807) who was at the forefront of resistance movements against Genoese and French rule of the island; as a freedom fighter and drafter of the Corsican Constitution, he served as an inspiration to the American Sons of Liberty movement. LS in French, signed “Pasquale de Paoli,” one page, 8 x 11.75, December 10, 1792. Letter to the Minister of War, regretting that the rank of camp marshal has not been granted to citizen Colonna Cesari; it would be of great use to him for military operations on the coasts and in the islands of the Mediterranean. In very good condition, with overall foxing.
