<B>Louisa Railroad Slave Hire Contract</B></I> Document Signed "<I>E Fontaine</B></I>", one page, 6.5" x 3.25", Virginia, January 12, 1846. The railroad here promises to pay Mary I. Boxley $40 on January 1, 1847 and to return her "<I>Negro named William</B></I>" with new clothing on that date. Good condition. The Louisa Railroad became the Virginia Central in 1850. The signatory on this document was Edmund Fontaine, the railroad's president.
