<B>A SIOUX PAINTED PARFLECHE CASE<BR></B></I><BR>c.1880<BR> composed of a cylindrical bottom panel, painted with bold geometric design in classic colors with black outlining, surmounted by a hide panel with drawstring closure, decorated with geometric beadwork, dew claws and hide fringe, with pencil inscription <I>Suzy Thompson</B></I>, <I>Slim Buttes, South Dakota</B></I>; brass cooking pot enclosed<BR><I><BR>Length: 22 ½ inches</B></I> <B>Condition Report:</B> Overall good. Hide with moderate wear with light soiling and abrasion. Pigment slightly faded. Approx. 5 tears, longest is 3 inches, on top hide panel. Approx. 5 inch tear with old repair of reinforcement hide sewn inside. Approx. 4 other areas of old repair. Minor bead loss. Two beaded triangles missing hide fringe and dew claws. Red cloth border along bottom edge frayed. Hide fringe along bottom edge 2.3’s missing and damaged. Illegible notation on the side of the bad. “Lucy A. (?)
