<B>Paris, IL</B></I> - $10 1875 Fr. 416 <B>The First NB</B></I> Ch. # 1555<BR>This note is from a run of about 25 closely grouped serials from this Edgar County issuer laid back long ago and documented in the census as "CU." The hoard also includes their $20 sheet mates. Organized in 1865, this bank lasted until 1885, issuing from the $1 through the $20 in the First Charter designs. All the known survivors are from the 1875 series in the $10 and $20 denominations. The old NASCA firm sold this note at its 1980 Memphis auction for the then unheard of price of $2,800. Like so many of the notes from this hoard, it has a top margin that narrows a bit. The paper surfaces, however, are of uncontestable Gem quality and the color is superb and every bit as vivid as the day this note was printed well more than a century ago. The original officers' signatures in black ink remain exceptionally strong. <B>Choice Crisp Uncirculated</B></I> is a grade designation no one will be able to contend is too generous, although a few may consider it unduly conservative.
