c1944-1952 - A complete uniform consisting of black tunic, trousers, hat with feathered attachment, and white gloves. The material is wool gabardine, adorned with brass buttons decorated with a crossed pick and hammer. The upper sleeves have velvet fringed epaulettes. Two enameled pinbacks are attached to the lapel. One reads Przodownik Pracy Socjalistydznej, which roughly translates as Socialist Work Foreman or leader, and the other pin reads Ratownik Gorniczy, which translates as Mining Rescuers. The People’s Republic of Poland socialist government dates from 1944-1952. The following information comes from the University of Illinois Library, Champagne-Urbana:

In the heart of industrial Silesia, the miners continue the ancient traditions of their profession. Part of the tradition is the miner`s parade uniform, where every detail is imbued with historical significance. For example the feathers on top of the hat come from a feather broom miners used to carry to dust the holes drilled for dynamiting coal walls. The sword, these days awarded to outstanding miners, reaches even farther back in history, when miners carried weapons as a protection from robbers [Ref:uiuc.libguides.com/content.php?pid=205346&sid=1713487].
