Papa's Delicate Condition Sammy Cahn Signed Lobby Card
The history of the geneses of the classic hit song "Call Me Irresponsible", composed by Jimmy Van Heusen with lyrics by Sammy Cahn is the food of legends. The famous story was that it was originally inspired by and written for Judy Garland as a parody of her well-known "irresponsible" behavior, and she was so upset when she heard it that she refused to sing it. However this isn't quite true (in fact she did eventually sing it on her TV show). Actually it was originally written for Fred Astaire to sing in his starring role of Jack Griffith in the Jack Rose comedy "Papa's Delicate Condition" (1963). In fact, Sammy Cahn personally auditioned the song for Astaire who loved it. Unfortunately, Astaire had to bow out of the production and his part was given to Jackie Gleason, who sang the song. The song of course went on to win the Oscar for Best Original Song at the 36th Academy Awards in 1964, and has become one of the greatest American standards, having been song by virtually ever renowned singer in the world including Jack Jones and Frank Sinatra. This is a rare original theatrical Lobby Card from the movie. It is personally signed by the Sammy Cahn. In excellent condition, the Lobby Card is 11"x14".
