Two parts in one volume. Part 1 is 528pp, part 2, A Universal History of Minerals, is 152 pp. Noted as very rare, this is the only copy we’ve seen come up for auction in over thirty years. This work by Lovell is remarkable. It summarizes all of the animals known at the time- written in the post medieval period. Though written during the Renaissance, it contains information that was a holdover from medieval times, such as a description and discussion of the unicorn, which they believed was a real animal. Mineralogists and mining historians will be fascinated by the discussion of minerals. Here the uses of the minerals are described in great detail, especially their use in pharmacology and in, one might argue, the “black arts”. Handsomely and professionally rebound.City: County: State: Date:
