(20th Century Fox, 1936) Pencil, pen & ink, colored pencil and watercolor on 11.5 x 14.5”” 2-ply illustration board, signed in pen by Paloma Gibson, the first of Virginia Field for Royer, the credited designer for Lloyd’s of London. Attached notes read: “Virginia Field(s) Testing for Part of Polly- May be in for Wig Fitting this evening- ‘Sketch much too dressy.’”, and “Polly, the Cigarette and Candy Girl in the House of Lloyd’s, and who secretly loves Jonathan. (Keep to Blonde shades)” plus notes concerning aging during story development. The second sketch is of Claude Rains as Ludwig van Beethoven, with a note “Suggested by Perc Westmore”, a role that Rains never seems to have played. Both show only traces of age or handling and are Very Fine.
