Palisade,NV - Eureka County - c1875 - View of the Palisades and Humboldt River Photograph :
The Humboldt River carves through the Palisades. Stereograph photo with orange matte measures 7”x3 ½”, high to medium contrast—tends toward the black, and focus is sharp. The sides of the stereograph mattes read, American Views and Pacific Railroad. The bottom reads, Palisades on the Humboldt River. Some minor wear around the edges of the matte, otherwise a very fine stereograph. Photograph published by E. & H.T Anthony & Co. Edward Anthony began photography in the early 1840s in New York. In 1862 he became E. & H.T. to recognize contributions made by his brother. The Anthony brothers began publishing stereoviews in 1859 and manufacturing cameras in 1870. This stereograph was likely taken soon after the Central Pacific Railroad was completed in 1869. The Palisades of Nevada are named after the Palisades on the Hudson River. They are located east of the town of Palisade, NV.
