Pair of18th century French Flintlock pocket pistols with carved bird head butts and cannon barrels, circa about 1770-1800. The pair measure 6” overall with 2-1/2” turned cannon type barrels with ringed muzzles. The pistols are approx 32 cal smooth bore. The metal surfaces are good with some light to moderate pitting. One hammer has broken at the neck and part retained. The stocks are very nicely carved and show raised scrolls at the tangs. The French Royalty often used the eagle head as a sign of rank and these are of the period shortly before the French Revolution. From an old New York collector’s estate. Est.; $1,250-$2,500.
