Pair of saw-handle flintlock dueling pistols by James Haslett, Baltimore MD, circa approx. 1800 in their original case with maker’s trade label in lid. Illustrated The Code of Honor: Dueling in America by Ellen N. Murry, which features the collection of Col. Orbello, page 27, full page. The pair measure 16” overall with 9-1/2” medium to heavy weight octagon barrels of .54 caliber smoothbore, half stocked to muzzles in premium select grain checkered walnut. Engraved iron triggerguard with silver inlaid plaques and trim. The pistols are double silver banded at breech with platinum blowout holes and show deep stamped maker’s cartouche at breech and lock that read “Haslett, Baltimore”. The pistols are in very good condition showing a grey patina finish, traces of original brown on barrels, some scattered light to moderate erosion and pinprick pitting. Some staining. Just normal aging. The locks show 50-70% toning case hardening. The stocks have been lightly refinished. One was broken and repaired at the wrist which is almost imperceptible. Also one hammer’s neck was broken and repaired expertly using the original top. The pair retain original to the period horn-tipped
