Pair of pommel bags with concealed holster under flap stamped “J. W. Moore, maker, Marysville” with decorative border tooling, good condition with normal aging, cracking, folding, scuffs and small losses. The interior holster fits a 6” Pocket well. The lacing has been replaced during period of use, the condition is generally good overall for its age. J. W. Moore is listed in the Marysville City directories from 1853 to 1856 and were Saddlers. Letter states that these bags came from the estate of John Bolton, a California pioneer. Bolton was in the Marysville California area in 1849 and relocated to San Francisco. The bags were believed to have blonged to his brother in law Dr. Willoughby. And there is faint writing in pencil on the inside of the bags that include the name Willoughby.
