Pair of percussion dueling/target pistols by E. Anschutz, Philadelphia, circa approx. 1855. IN very good to near fine condition, cased with accessories, illustrated The Code of Honor: Dueling in America by Ellen N. Murry, which features the collection of Col. Orbello, page 18, top illustration. The pair measure 15-7/8” overall with approx. 8-1/4” octagon to round barrels, ,46 caliber rifled, half stocked, straight grain walnut, checkered wrists, browned barrels, case hardened locks, blued trigger guards, single set adjustable triggers. Lightly engraved locks and breeches. The barrels. Retain 75-85% deep tobacco brown finish with some spotting and erosion, minor pinprick pitting just starting, and some pitting at the muzzles and breeches. The locks and tangs show most of their original grayish case hardening just drifting and toning with some slight beginning age, the stocks are very good plus to near fine with crisp checkering, slight edge wear, normal aging. The triggerguards show 50-60% tonight original blue. The actions are crisp. The pistols have seen little use. The pair show key adjustable rear sights.
