Pair of ivory-mounted percussion muff pistols in original case circa 1840’s – 1860’s. The pair measure approximately 4-1/2” overall with 1-1/2” barrels of approximately .34 caliber false rifle. The pistols are finished in the bright or French grey and are numbered, “567” on the bottom of the breeches. The pair are lightly engraved and remain in near fine condition with just some light cleaning and beginning normal age. The original to-the-period ivory stocks show some yellowing and minor age cracks. The pair are contained within an original French-style velveteen lined case with ivory flask, ivory cap box with screwed top, combination tool with barrel key, nipple wrench, and mold, and two original compartment covers with key. The interior of the case is fine to nearly excellent and not relined. The case is constructed of hand-rubbed walnut with brass key plate and owner’s plaque. The exterior of the case is very good plus to near fine, with some slight age checking, minor cracks, marks, and normal age. A stunning set that is not remounted, recased, or reworked in any way.
