Pair of high quality percussion dueling pistols signed Constable, Philadelphia on barrels and lock, presented to Philip Auguste Stockton who served as a Lieutenant above the U.S. S. Constitution and later entered the U.S. Diplomatic service. Approx. .46 caliber smoothbore, 10” medium weight barrels, 17” overall, back-action locks, half stocked, in selected walnut with checkered grip, scroll guards, hammer safeties, the barrels show 40-60% brown with a Damascus pattern, some light to moderate erosion and areas of pitting just starting. The locks show 50-70% toning case hardening drifting to patina with some rust and erosion just staring. The walnut stocks are very good plus with good crisp checkering. Most of the original varnish, just some minor scratches, mars, and light handling. The triggerguards show 75% bright blue that is toning. The pistols show period brass-tipped wooden ramrods. The pair are contained within their original to the period cotton partition style case with maker’s label still showing in lid. The bottom portion of case is lined in green velveteen. The top portion is a light purple, giving it a colorful contrast. The case contains a
