Pair of high quality fancy silver mounted double barrel flintlock pistols signed “Penet (Bros.) a’, St. Etienne”. The pistols measure 14” overall with a 7 ½” barrels of approximately .62 caliber smoothbore. The pair have been professionallycleaned to a bright Museum quality finish showing sharp edges and well defined engraving and metal surfaces (Not rubbed out). The pair are in their original flintlock configuration with correct hammers and parts. The stocks have been lightlyrefreshed and also show good sharp raised carving and good surfaces. The pistols are ornately mounted with cast silver mounts showing Grecian and military designs along with small French hallmarks. Double barrel pairs of flintlockpistols are scarce but particularly rare and desirable when finely silver mounted. We would date this fine set at about 1760-1780. Est.: $7,000-$14,000
